New Year New You – What a Load of Sh*t!

New Year New You

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” – Maya Angelou

It’s that time of year again. The whole “new year new you” saying rears its ugly head and it really annoys me. I mean REALLY annoys me.

Whether it be broadcast by people I somehow became “friends” with on Facebook to my nearest and dearest – it always makes me just roll my eyes and want to punch them in the throat. Drastic? Maybe, but stay with me on this one.

It’s Not a New YOU!

As an ambitious person, I’m all for setting goals and if you need the new year to be your springboard – fine. But, you don’t need to change who you are. What you need to do is change your habits, change your attitude, plan what you want to do down to the finest detail – but changing the essence of who you are is just ridiculous. At the end of the day we’re constantly over thinking everything and making excuses as to why we can’t do any of the things we actually want to do.

Think about it.

So, to make things simpler for everyone, I’m going to go through ways to give us that self-improvement we all desperately crave without the whole “new near new you” bollocks.
*Deep breath*

You want to lose weight? Stop eating so much crap.

You want to get fit? Get up 30 minutes earlier and go for a run.

You want to grow muscles? Change your diet. Go to the gym more than once a week.

You want to read more? Watch less crap on TV.

You want to write more? Watch less crap on TV.

You want to cook more? You have free recipes all over the internet – search for them.

You want to travel more? Find a place within your budget. Pick a date. Buy a ticket. Go!

You want to be a better friend? Stop cancelling on them. Call them. Give them a gift for no apparent
reason.

You want to save more money? Make saving part of your budget.

You want to be a better child? Call your parents more. For no reason.

You want to learn to dance? Find a class. Book it. Commit.

You want to learn to communicate better? Stop texting. Ditch the LOL’s and emojis. Write actual words! Get off your arse. Go and meet somebody for lunch and have a real conversation.

You want to de-clutter your life? Throw out anything you haven’t used in the last year.

You want to start a YouTube channel? Then start a f*cking YouTube channel. Jeez.

You want to meet the love of your life? Don’t even think about it – it will drive you crazy for no reason. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being single!

As I said earlier – it’s your attitude that needs to be new. NOT YOU. So, I’m going to leave this Maya Angelou quote here for the second time. Have a great 2017!

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” – Maya Angelou
