Bar Review – Apples and Pears, Brick Lane

You know that feeling when you walk into a cool, little bar and you instantly get a really good buzz from the place? This is what happens when you set foot inside Apples and Pears on Osborn Street (the extension of Brick Lane).

Some friends and I wandered in on a Thursday night and chilled outside in the courtyard for a few drinks before heading inside for their “Pop Goes the Bingo and Naked Poetry” evening. Unfortunately there weren’t any naked poets (which was the whole reason we went). Still, the bingo was good fun.

We paid a fiver a head for 3 games of bingo hosted by an overzealous compare who kept us all entertained. The prizes consisted of bar tabs and bottles of various spirits. Naturally, with my luck of never having won anything in my life – I didn’t even get close to winning.

The bar staff were really cool. In fact, the wonderful Carlos behind the bar whipped me up a “Chai Mai Tai” which was as good a cocktail as I’ve had all year. Being a huge rum fan, this was right up my alley.

This could easily start to become my local.
